Changing the Narrative: Eunique Jones Gibson’s Impact on Representation

Making an impact: That’s the singular focus of Eunique Jones Gibson. A cultural force amplifying the Black community, she brings more than the cool factor to her marketing campaigns and brands. The Culture Brand CEO curates content that genuinely resonates with Black audiences based on lived experiences. Pulling from her own, Gibson hit the Target baby aisle this year with her brand, The Happy Hues Co., highlighting diversity even in potty training.

With a “that’s me” mentality, Gibson developed culturally-centered designs within quality diapering products so even the youngest of generations can see themselves in the world around them. And it was no easy task to disrupt the major players (and narratives) in the baby industry.

But “it’s not just about being on the shelf — it’s about what it means for our community to see a Black-owned, mom-founded brand in this space. It’s a powerful reminder of how necessary our stories, joy and unique perspectives are, even in the diaper aisle,” says Gibson.

This marketing motivator goes beyond inclusive product development. It’s about culture change. The Happy Hues Crew, pictured on the diapers, are the boots on the ground in joy-filled, diversity-rich cartoon shorts for kids to find (and celebrate) their people.

While Gibson didn’t picture herself in the CPG market, it all goes back to what she didn’t see that brought her to this launch and this brand. Her driving purpose? Bringing representation to spaces where it’s long been missing.

Founder’s Note

Knowing your “why” is key to building a better business. I’m leaning into my values as I shape Smply because your business values and personal values eventually become one. So, be intentional when you craft your company’s capital, culture and content. People fall in love with the person (or people) behind the business, not just the brick and mortar or digital storefront.

Key Insight: :Leading from your values is your company’s foundation and true north along the way. It not only keeps you focused but helps you stay in your lane so you don’t get off course.

Next Step: Define your top 3 personal values and seek alignment with your brand values. This will ensure a laser-sharp focus and authenticity to your business mission.

Tip for Fellow Founders: Be open to change and don’t be afraid to recalibrate based on a values shift. It’s OK to discover that what you believed in no longer aligns with where you’re going.
